The SHOs of India are the front-runners in every city when it comes to maintaining law and order.

Station House Officer (SHO) is the head of a police station or subdivision, which holds jurisdiction over a small town or district. Station house officer may be an inspector but they must have served for at least one year as sub-inspector. The SHO is in most cases the officer investigating a serious crime such as murder, rape and arson. He may not necessarily be the officer writing out an FIR — that can be done by any police officer above constable rank and has been entrusted with the powers of filing and registering First Information Report (FIR) on behalf of state government. Unlike most other countries, where senior officers deal mostly with high-profile crimes, Indian police often work at squad level. In those cases ,the Sub Inspector reports to his superior the DSP or additional SP or DCP who then briefs a team which solves it.
