The K.M. Mammen Mappillai has opened the Madras Rubber Factory (MRF). As a start-up, it began at Tiruvottiyur, Madras (now Chennai) in 1946 as a toy balloon manufacturing unit. In 1952, MRF was interested in manufacturing tread rubber. In 1960, it was incorporated as a private limited company. MRF began manufacturing nylon tyres for the first time in 1973.
Madras Rubber Factory (MRF) is a high-quality Indian multinational tyre manufacturer and the second largest tyre manufacturer in India after Apollo tyres, which is also the sixth largest manufacturer in the world. It has its main office in Chennai, Tamil Nadu , India. MRF also runs the MRF Pace Foundation, Chennai and MRF Challenge in motorsport. The company produces rubber goods including tyres, treads, tubes and conveyor belts, paints and toys.
