Block Development Officer is bdo full form. Block Development Officer (BDO) is the chief executive officer of a Block, who acts as an anchor for delivery of government programme in his jurisdiction. He works as a focal point between state and district governments for implementation of all development schemes including flagship programmes like – Indira Awas Yojana, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme and BPL Census 2011 etc.
As a district level functionary, BDO is responsible for coordination and monitoring of all development schemes at the Block level. He is expected to monitor, review and guide programmes from planning stage till execution of works. Now days BDO also performs as nodal officer on behalf of government for implementing various social security schemes including NREG Scheme, MNREGA scheme, AADHAR scheme. He is also selected for direct transfer benefit scheme – Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme Unnat Bharat Shreshth Kriya Yojana (DBT).
BDO is the head of Block Panchayats i.e. State Government’s representative at District level who not only helps in execution of Rural Development Schemes but responsible for their efficient implementation. Under his supervision, works are executed by Gram Panchayats under various schemes like MGNREGS & RKVY etc. Thus BDO is the one to be approached for all developmental issues in Districts rural areas especially related to Gram Panchavati.
