The aicte full form is All India Council for Technical Education. Under the Department of Higher Education, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is a statutory entity and a national-level council for technical education. The AICTE, which began as an advisory organization in November 1945 and was later given statutory status by an Act of Parliament in 1987, is responsible for the appropriate planning and coordinated development of India’s technical and management education systems.

It is supported by ten Statutory Boards of Studies, which include UG Engineering and Technology Studies, PG Engineering and Technology Research, Management Studies, Vocational Education, Technical Education, Pharmaceutical Education, Architecture, Hotel Management, and Catering Technology, Information Technology, and Town and Country Planning. The AICTE’s new headquarters building is located on Nelson Mandela Road, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, 110 067, and houses the chairman, vice-chairman, and member secretary, as well as regional offices in Kanpur, Chandigarh, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bhopal, Vadodara, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Thiruvananthapuram.
“As per provisions of the AICTE Act and University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, the council has no authority to issue or implement any fines on institutions associated with the universities as its duty is to provide only advise and recommendations,” the Supreme Court stated on April 25, 2013. Following that, the Supreme Court granted AICTE permission to regulate technical colleges on a year-to-year basis until January 2016, when AICTE received blanket permission to publish the Approval Process Handbook and approve technical colleges, including management, for the 2016-17 academic year and all future academic years.
